The Olympic Torch is Coming to Dover!

The Olympic torch will be making its way through Dover on the 18th July 2012, and then onto Deal, Sandwich and Sholden on the 19th July 2012.

Deal, Dover, Sandwich and Sholden are four of over 1,000 villages, towns and cities announced by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) through which the Olympic Flame will be carried by Torchbearers during the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay

Cllr Paul Watkins, Leader of Dover District Council said: “This is a special occasion for Deal, Sandwich and Sholden, and the whole area, and follows the major announcement made in May that the Olympic Torch is coming to Dover for the Evening Celebration. This is an opportunity for community celebrations, and for residents and people in surrounding areas to welcome the Olympic Flame, and to support members of the community who have been chosen to run with the Olympic Torch. We have a unique opportunity to shine a light on the area and showcase Dover District.”

I understand there is loads planned for this, it should be an exciting week for the area. I can't wait and have already booked time off work to join in the fun :)

Im going to try my best to get the 18th off work, but at the moment leave is very restricted during July and August!

So many departments have been told no leave over the Olympics - fortunately mine is not one of them so we have the usual rules governing time off over the Olympics. I think it's a bit excessive, and is going to impact hard on those with young children. I wonder if any other companies and organisations have put rules like this in place?

I was quite relieved as I have quite a few bits and pieces to do over the summer including a WHPS Open Weekend, and I really can't miss all the fun of that :)

I think over a period of 3 months we have a slot of 3 weeks for anyone that wants leave to take it. Surprisingly not too many people were fussed about taking leave. I prefer to save mine up for when its cold, wet and dark outside!
